Surfing Etiquette is imperative whether you are surfing the lakes or in the ocean. Etiquette needs to be followed by every surfer from beginner to advanced. Be an educated surfer; learn these rules as described by a local Hawaiian surfer for a safe, enjoyable surf session.
• Surfer closest to the peak has the right of way
• Don’t drop in on someone, look right and left before you takeoff
• Pull out of the wave if you takeoff in front of someone
• Paddle out around the shoulder of the wave, not through the middle
• Don’t go out in surf bigger than you can handle
• When an accident occurs, ask the other surfer if they’re okay
• Be courteous and respectful of others in the water
• Teach the keiki, respect the kupuna
Malama Ke Kai, cherish da sea
